Doodie Lo lives like Tommy Bundy in ‘Belly’-inspired “Role Model” video

With a 100 million dollar bald head and a braggadocious attitude, Doodie Lo is one of rap game’s most exciting upstarts. Lil Durk’s Only The Family protege is paving the way for 2024 with his New Year’s resolutions to become a “Role Model,” sharing the first single from his upcoming What Made Me project, coming soon via Only The Family/EMPIRE. The Kankakee, Illinois rapper’s latest single finds him amidst an internal battle between becoming an upstanding hometown hero for his city and keeping the opps stationed in their rightful place: beneath him.

The Diesel Films-directed video offers a glimpse into the OTF riser’s dual lifestyle, showing the juxtaposition between being a positive influence and being deeply entrenched in the streets. Drawing inspiration from in the DMX-starring Belly film, the visual seamlessly transitions between scenes of Doodie sharing street smarts with a young teen and handling business at a restaurant, resulting in a bloody shooting. What I love most is that you can tell Doodie loves to study Black film – he gives a nod to the iconic side chick scene from the cult classic, adding a funny twist with two women arguing over him. Overall, this track is a perfect reminder that life isn’t always straightforward, especially when straddling the lines of two different worlds.

“Role Model” is Doodie Lo’s first new single of the year, following recent singles like “Popeyes” ft. Icewear Vezzo & OTF Deeski, “Smurkio Flow,” “Play With My Name,” and “Daddies Babies.” The forthcoming What Made Me is the follow up to Doodie’s 2021 debut project Big Doodie Lo, which is home to “Me & Doodie Lo,” the energetic collab between him and the late King Von (20M+ YouTube views).
