J. Stalin – Miracle & Nightmare On 10th Street Pt. 2

J. Stalin – Miracle & Nightmare On 10th Street Pt. 2

Eight collaborations in with “hearts cold as a smoothie,” Bay Area legends J. Stalin & DJ Fresh are back with the announcement of their long-awaited 2013 follow-up album Miracle & Nightmare On 10th Street Pt. 2. Speaking on their long-term working friendship, Stalin says, “We’re like brothers. People say we’re like Dr. Dre and Snoop if they never stopped working together on albums. We’ve got so much chemistry and we clash, but in a good way. He’ll be on me about my bars like, ‘I’ll need you to do this flow pattern,’ and he always makes me rap better.” Alongside the announcement, J. Stalin & DJ Fresh share the title track, “Nightmare On 10th Street Returns,” which sees J. Stalin rap with an edge to his voice over a lush synth-infused classic Bay beat.

Miracle & Nightmare On 10th Street Pt. 2 is a double-disc LP with Disc 1 leaning into darker, nightmare themes and Disc 2 hones in on blessings and miracles. The album’s title was of course inspired by both the 1947 Christmas classic “Miracle on 34th Street,” and Wes Craven’s 1984 slasher film “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” and interpolated to reflect J. Stalin’s childhood home on 10th street in the Cypress Village housing projects. Disc 2 hosts a particularly special feature on “Childhood Dreams,” from none other than Lil Chief Baby Wipes, who is Stalin’s 4 year old son (wonder how long he’ll let his dad call him that).

With 44 albums/mixtapes released to date, J. Stalin rose to prominence during the Hyphy era, releasing his debut album and Bay Area rap touchstone On Behalf of the Streets in early May 2007. Stalin built a reputation as one of the most prolific and respected rappers and businessmen in his city, collaborating with the likes of E-40, Keak Da Sneak, Clyde Carson & The Team, the Mob Figaz, and Philthy Rich, and founding Livewire Ent., a subsidiary of the late Mac Dre’s Thizz ENT. On Miracle & Nightmare On 10th Street Pt. 2, J. Stalin connects with Bay mainstay DJ Fresh for Nightmare on 10th Street, a 10-track dose of brutally honest street rap and the first part of a two-disc project along with its mirror image, Miracle on 10th Street, and featuring appearances from Shady Nate, Beeda Weedam, Juneonnabeat, and more. Nightmare on 10th Street Pt. 2 drops on November 16th via EMPIRE.
