OMB Peezy is a promising young talent who grew up in both Alabama and Sacramento and whose music brings regional rap to mainstream prominence. Videos for “Lay Down” and “When I Was Down” went viral earlier this year, leading to a label deal with 300 Entertainment (Young Thug, Tee Grizzley) in partnership with E-40’s Sick Wid It Records. Today, Peezy returns with a new song, his first since signing to 300.
For “Porch,” Peezy showcases a wisdom and maturity that belies his age (just 20 years old), rapping about street life and warning those coming up in the game to stay away from it unless they’re prepared to “die before they let a hater play them.” While Peezy “hopped off the porch” and grew up fast and speaks from real experience from the song, he doesn’t glorify the life that he lives and sheds light on the repercussions. The video, filmed in a neighborhood in Sacramento where he was staying for a moment, is simple by design. “I wanted to keep things simple so I could get my point across,” Peezy said. “Don’t just hop off the porch trying to be cool. You gotta be cautious of what you’re doing.”
